The Position

The Director of Promotional Products serves as the general manager of the Promotional Products line of business, with full P&L responsibilities. This key leader provides strategic leadership to enable achievement of the company’s aggressive growth agenda in the promotional products space. This individual has responsibility for collaboratively developing and executing the business plan across all market segments and applicable customer accounts, with a focus on profitable revenue growth. The Director leads a team of direct reports working closely with account executives and customers, directly, to deliver unique, specialized and complex programs while ensuring flawless execution.
 
The company is seeking an experienced business leader with a successful track record of leading high‐ impact, sales‐oriented teams in a rapidly‐evolving, high‐growth environment. This individual must have the ability to positively enhance sales effectiveness, drive step‐change operational execution and optimize resources while building highly‐effective relationships with both internal constituents and outside parties, including both customers and vendors. The ideal candidate will be one who possesses best‐in‐class inside and outside sales leadership skills, strong business acumen and a high degree of learning and application agility. This person must be able to operate effectively as both player and coach, with a leadership style that equally values “how” something is done with “what” is accomplished.
 
The ultimate measure of this individual’s success will be achieving the profitable growth plans for the promotional products line of business of the company, while building internal competencies and positive long‐term relationships with customers, colleagues and external constituents.


Reporting Relationships
 
The Director of Promotional Products will be a member of the executive Leadership Team, reporting directly to the President & CEO. Reporting to the Director will be a team of nine professionals, including two account executives, four brand builders, two project coordinators and an in‐house designer, each focused exclusively on rapidly growing the Promotional Products business unit.


Specific Responsibilities

- Manage the P&L for the line of business. Refine and execute business plan to double revenue over next 3 years. Create and execute line of business budget annually to achieve profitability goals (both gross margin and operating income) while overseeing available resources to meet or exceed plan

- Drive sales to key target accounts and prospects, reassigning resources as necessary to maximize impact and growth. Jointly develop sales plans and penetration strategies with account executives and brand builders, oversee adherence to the sales process and pipeline management, and confirm execution and full realization of the plan

- Establish, oversee, verify and maintain proper documentation and training to key processes and procedures. Oversee freight billing process, training and verification

- Determine and manage all personnel hiring for the line of business, including sales and project management roles. Conduct employee reviews and support development and ongoing training of employees. Build and foster a culture of cross‐organizational collaboration

- Build out and manage supply chain, including proper due diligence of prospective vendors and conduct regular reviews of existing vendors. Schedule and organize on site vendor meetings for Account Executives and Brand Builders. Negotiate and manage vendor terms, credit limits and pricing agreements

- Oversee internal marketing materials and our brand with regards to marketing tools for sales team. Maintain leading‐edge nature of onsite showroom. Oversee management of promotional products section of our website. Acquire and analyze competitive intelligence, and stay abreast of industry news & trends


Professional Qualifications

- At least 7 years of progressively responsible general management experience, with at least half in an account executive, direct sales or sales leadership role. Must have a demonstrated track record of achieving profitable sales growth, positive leadership and implementation of best practices

- Highly competitive, strategic thinking and results oriented. Ability to make timely decisions under pressure

- Experience in product and/or service sales to corporate marketing teams. Proven experience in the Promotional Products industry while possessing an understanding of a multitude of production techniques and relationships with various vendors, is a definite plus

- Must have strong strategic sales and marketing leadership skills, along with the ability to assess, develop and implement sales and marketing plans. Should possess the ability to lead others through creative thought leadership, functional expertise and influence management skills

- Must be a well‐organized self‐starter who can effectively articulate business plans and deliver results. Also, must be able to develop creative approaches to drive growth agenda, leveraging internal and external resources. Furthermore, demonstrate an aptitude for using data‐driven decision‐making

- Must have excellent team leadership and development skills; strong business acumen, problem solving and work ethic; change management and project management skills; and the ability to strategically lead and align and engage team members at all levels in a highly‐effective manner

- Ability to work independently, with excellent communication & interpersonal skills

- Ability to drive collaboration, working effectively with and influencing those outside of the promotional products team to create positive impact on business performance

- Strong MS computer skills, Salesforce CRM and general software applications

- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing or a related field
